**Prepare** really involves two distinct steps. The first is simply ensuring that you're taking as many trips as you'd like to. Usually this means choosing [[Prioritize experiences over things|choosing experiences over possessions]] and reducing any unnecessary friction for traveling. The second is preparing for your trip in a way that creates the most meaningful memories during the trip itself.
All trips require some degree of preparation. Doing some pre-work to ensure that you can have the *best* experience possible is an easy way to increase the amount of personal value your trip starts with. Obviously, you'll gain far more overall [[§ 0 - Return on Adventure|ROA]] value from a great trip than a just-okay trip, so that's the goal.
There are several ways you can help prepare for an excellent trip.
The first, and most obvious, is simply to [[Be properly prepared]] for the adventures you want to have. You don't need to over-plan, but instead focus on [[Balancing expectations and surprise]].
Learning at least a little bit about the places and cultures you'll be visiting will help you appreciate more about the experiences you have. You'll notice more details and better understand nuances, which will further enrich your adventures.
Having a purpose or goal for your trip can also make your trip more personally meaningful. Perhaps it's eating only new-to-you foods, or taking on a difficult physical challenge, or otherwise pushing yourself a bit beyond your comfort zone.
