Sometimes, returning from travel (especially very long trips, or those that were emotionally taxing) can be a jarring experience.
The process of reflecting on the trip can be seen as a “shutdown” sequence habit[^1], a way to decompress that can help you better re-orient yourself back to your normal daily life.
Similarly, [[Pre-journaling]] at the start of your trip can also help you step away from your normal daily concerns and get you into the right state of mind for meaningful travel.
[^1]: This is adapted from Cal Newport's "Schedule Shutdown Complete" ritual, which he first introduced in [this blog post](https://www.calnewport.com/blog/2009/06/08/drastically-reduce-stress-with-a-work-shutdown-ritual/). However, I think that [this summary](https://www.mediacurrent.com/blog/improve-your-remote-work-productivity-shutdown-ritual/) (which also references the concept of "habit stacking"), is a better introduction to the concept.
