After we experienced *five* different water leaks in a two-month period in 2023—yes, 5 of them—we decided to add some leak detectors. We got [a three pack of these Moen ones](https://shop.moen.com/products/920-005), along with their detection cables. We have one under each sink in the house. The audible alarm isn't especially loud—you'd hear it if you were nearby, but you might not if you were in another room with the tv on or something. But oh boy oh boy, you'd also get an app alert, a text message, a phone call (and voicemail if you don't answer). That definitely gives us some piece of mind that we'll catch anything that happens in those particular sinks. The rest of the house—where half of our 2023 leaks originated—are not monitored. Moen also sells a "whole home" fancy-ass detector that goes on the incoming water supply pipe that could track any major water leak, and Moen could even shut it off remotely, but we didn't invest in that. It's about $500-800 depending on your water supply pipe. Especially since we travel so often, I think we would have invested in this if we could have gotten it installed without too much trouble, but our particular set up makes it difficult. ## Update We’ve had the system running for about 9 months now. We’ve gotten two false alarms. The first seemed to be when one of the batteries went low around the 7 month mark. So we just proactively replaced all the batteries and set up a reminder to do so every six months. The second happened about a month later, but I’m not sure why—there was no moisture that I could see. --- Tags: #products/home >[!info] About my product reviews >Online reviews are untrustworthy and suck these days, so I post my own to share my experience and research (see #product-reviews).
