Great outdoor bar area, with lots of nice shaded tables and comfy chairs, including two “living rooms” a bit further from the main bar area. Unfortunately, the WiFi is available only for a fee, though it wasn’t too pricey. Apparently the profits are redistributed to local community projects.
The owner, Eddie, got fed up with Western culture, found the property online, and left the Netherlands 18 years ago to buy and operate it. He’s quite opinionated about many topics, and seems to appreciate his new life even if he’s frustrated by the local help, tourists, and African culture.
The rooms themselves were okay. We stayed in a simple chalet with two beds. There were a number of frogs in our bathroom, including one that resided within the toilet bowl. The shower was a weird contraption that apparently heated the water right at the faucet, though we only got cold water. The exposed wiring above did not inspire confidence. We also had an ant (and termite?) invasion in the bathroom, though we sprayed the shit out of all the window cracks to keep future insects out.
There was a small but insufficient fan, so we both set up our own. There was a tremendous rainstorm overnight, which kept us up, especially when a large fruit from the sausage tree would fall onto the tin roof.
