Tony Stubblebine has an interesting take on collecting streaks, as opposed to maintaining them, when building habits. Most of the advice I've seen around this is "don't break the chain." So the goal becomes as long of a streak as possible. But things happen, streaks get broken, you feel bad, and then it's really hard to get started again.
But maybe it's *easier* to count lots of 3-day streaks, as opposed to trying to build one long unbroken one. It’s a simple reframing that seems useful, especially for when you break a streak you were proud of.
