One of the ways to increase your enjoyment of a trip is to [[§ 1.1 - Prepare|do some research]] before your trip. %%should this be a link to a note more focused on the actual preparation you should include?%% Doing so allows you to understand and appreciate the nuance and small details you'll encounter on a trip—especially in foreign cultures or environments. And notably, you can gain "pre-trip value" just in the anticipation and looking forward to an upcoming trip, similar to the value you get [[§ 1.4 - Reflect|from looking back]] on a previous one. That said, there is a balance between researching to make the experience richer and over-researching in a way that eliminates the ability to be surprised during a trip. This is similar to a common dilemma for hiking guidebook authors. How much trail detail do you include so users can follow and appreciate the trail, while at the same time allowing them to experience it without too many spoilers? I haven't encountered an effective guideline for finding this balance[^1], but it's something to keep in mind. --- [^1]: If you have some ideas, please [email me](mailto:[email protected])!
