A Death Date is an artificial deadline you place on the goals for your life.
We don't know when we'll die, but because it's easy to believe that tomorrow will always come, humans have a natural tendency to see our own lives as generally infinite. Yes, we rationally *know* that we will die one day, but death is often seen as something that happens in some hazy, ill-defined future. As a result, we misconstrue how long we have left (especially [[Health span|in good health]]), and therefore our perspective towards is skewed.
By choosing a "life deadline," you help push back against [[Someday syndrome]] and better prioritize what you want in your remaining life.
Here's more on [my own personal death date](https://rscottjones.com/death-date/). At times I've used a countdown clock, set to days remaining, to ensure that I remained inspired each day to live as I wanted. Similarly, some people carry a [[Memento Mori]] to remind themselves.
